I’m posting this as a reminder to myself to watch the fake Guy Fieri interviewed at a Kansas City Royals game video at least every two years.
The reveal of fake Guy Fieri is so perfect you couldn’t script it any better. See, I’ll script it, albeit not accurately with the set-up because I’m lazy:
FAKE GUY FIERI
EXT. ROYALS GAME - DAY
We open on the Royals broadcast, mid-inning, and two broadcasters bantering like broadcasters do. They throw it to Joel in the stands who ad-libs something back then eventually:
JOEL (V.O.)
Yeah, I’m with Guy Fieri of the Food Network who just wanted to come and catch a game. (to Guy) How big of a baseball fan are you?
Joel points the microphone to Fake Guy.
GUY FIERI (V.O.)
Aw, man, I’m a big baseball fan. Royals have been doing a good job tonight, aren’t they?
SMACK! A Royals batter hits a high fly to the LEFT FIELDER who catches it. Joel ad-libs the play-by-play then:
JOEL (V.O.)
Guy’s been loving…
CUT TO A TWO-SHOT of Joel and Guy in the stands, revealing this is clearly a fake Guy Fieri, not the real Guy Fieri the world has come to love.
JOEL CONT.
… Guy’s been loving watching Zach Grienke pitch.
A CHYRON appears which reads: Guy Fieri. Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.
JOEL CONT.
(mumbles something unclear then:) That’s not a bad thing is it?
FAKE GUY FIERI
Not a bad thing at all. Actually a good thing.
JOEL
You get to travel all around the world, eating all types of food… what do you like about ballpark food?
FAKE GUY FIERI
Originality. (Awkward beat as Fake Guy wonders if that was enough of an answer or he should press his luck and add more) Special originality. People make it themselves.
The camera continues to focus on the interview while an entire game is going on, meaning fans at home have to watch Fake Guy Fieri totally pwn their baseball team, their baseball team’s broadcasters, and their city, and not the actual game.
